In 1970, three men hiked six miles into the Washington State wilderness to find Justice William O. Douglas for a temporary restraining order. Justice Douglas, on a camping trip, heard their case, left a decision the next day, and denied the application. The story is from Phil Cogswell’s “Lawyers Hike 6 Miles in Woods to Find Justice Douglas” article, with credit to Cynthia Rapp for preserving it.
