There is no absolutely correct leadership today, since the situation changes almost daily. However, there are certain rules you can follow to avoid cheating. This article is aimed at advanced beginners who know what hosting is.
Shared hosting is primitive and cheap: it is enough to scatter the files of the Internet resource into folders, connect the database and the site in order. But the server software is entirely in the hands of the hosting owners. If any vulnerability such as Heart bleed is found, you should wait for the reaction of the hosting owners – you will not be able to fix the problem yourself. There can also be trouble with resources. But that’s how lucky.
What to search for when selecting a VPS
So how do you find out a worthy VPS hosting? Initially, you require paying attention to the after parameters.
Disk. If content will be added to your Internet resource, then at least 10 GB. The place is never superfluous.
Disc type. The choice today is from slowest to fastest: SATA, SAS and SSD. Intermediate options are only useful in very specific cases. They require tuning, otherwise you will get too slow speed. If visitors do not upload anything to the site, SAS or SATA is enough. Otherwise – SSD.
RAM (RAM). For a steady business card site, 384 MB RAM use to be sufficient. For WordPress – at least 512 MB. It happens to be better taking a server with 1 GB together. This is sufficient for the huge majority of responsibilities. Suddenly you want to run a couple of sites on the same server.
Processor. Practically useless when looking for a normal Cheap Windows VPS factor, since knowing the frequency and number of cores, in principle, does not determine the performance of a virtual server. This nuance can be found out only when working with the server.
Traffic. Calculate how much a page of your Internet resource weighs on average and multiply by the total number of visitors per month.
Channel speed. 100 Mbps is usually enough unless you have a large video hosting service.
Country. Choose Europe for low ping. From the foreign hosting providers, it happens to be better choosing companies from the CIS which host servers in Europe.
Virtualization. It makes no difference. There are, of course, differences, but in most cases this is not at all important.
Operating system. Ubuntu is desirable, but if hosting is provided only by CentOS or Debian – that’s fine too. It is better not to use Gentoo, openSUSE, Fedora and others if server administration is definitely new to you – there is very little documentation. Windows servers also go there – most simply don’t need them.
Administration. For 99.99% of hosting providers, administration is a paid service.
IPv6 support. She is needed. Now IPv6 is unlikely to be in great demand, since IPv4 addresses are not over yet, but in the future it will be easier to switch if the hosting supports it.
Minimum payment time. Better if it will be one month. Some require payment three months in advance, or offer huge discounts for an annual fee. Do you know why? Since when all the problems of this hosting are revealed, you will not leave – you will be sorry for the money.
Hosting age. Age doesn’t matter. The servers of a young hosting, as a rule, fly because they are not loaded – there are still too few clients. Old hosting can also show itself from a very good side if it expands its server park.
Price. This factor does not affect the speed of servers, as well as the quality of services in general. You should select a cheaper hosting.
