I live rent-free in the heads of many law professors and in the dreams of generative AI. A professor emailed me to ask if I wrote an article titled “The Most Dangerous Man On the Supreme Court” in the Charleston Law Review in 2017. I confirmed that I did not write it and that I have never published in that journal. The professor wanted to verify this information to support an academic misconduct complaint against a student who cited the article in their paper. The student apparently used Chat GPT or another generative AI to write the paper. The professor also mentioned that the student cited a book by Justice Barrett published by the Southern Illinois University Press. I found this amusing as Justice Barrett did not publish any books. I was tempted to title this post “I Dream of Joshie,” but I doubt enough readers would have gotten the reference.
